A Recap of My First Month Eating My Way Around the World

19 down, 176 to go

I have to admit, when I set out on this adventure, I didn’t really think it would be possible to cook a recipe from every country in the world in twelve months.  I was also worried I’d burn out.  I’m excited to report that one month into my journey, I’m on par to meet my goal and showing no symptoms of jet lag.

The food has been amazing – so far, I’ve not made a single dish I didn’t like!  There’s no denying this is a time consuming task, and as Courtney will attest it has resulted in scavenger hunt style grocery runs and an even Messier Kitchen (love you, babe!)  It also turns out that cooking your way around the world takes a lot of planning and research. And lots of trips to the library (thank goodness for the library!)  But I’ve learned SO much!  Plus, it’s meant even more dinner parties, and cooking for family and friends truly is my passion.  The other lovely thing is that this mission has prompted wonderful conversations that have allowed me to learn from friends and colleagues about their cultural heritage as it relates to the dinner table and beyond.

I can honestly say that this has been the best New Year’s resolution I’ve ever made.  Learning about and experiencing other cultures and then getting to share my learnings and the fruits of my labor is not just delicious, but also enriching.  I feel so very fortunate to live in a country with such diverse cultural heritage, and not just in foods we eat; cultural diversity makes every aspect of our lives that much richer.  Diversity is our strength; when we recognize and celebrate that, we thrive.

Here’s a recap…
