Homemade Twinkies: Why Hostess Closing Isn’t the End of the World

I couldn’t resist.  I had to at make at least one reference to the Mayans’ prediction.  I don’t actually believe that we’ll witness the apocalypse today, but I did decide to take the day off… just in case.  Oh, and to finish my Christmas shopping.

I’m quite certain I could survive in a world without Twinkies.  In fact I went nearly a quarter century having never tried the iconic treat.  Then on a road trip across the country, I found myself at the largest truck stop in the world with my friend Jana, who also had never had a Twinkie.  It was just meant to be. 183258642

And you know what?  It wasn’t nearly as bad as I was expecting.  But I was never inclined to have another… until Hostess announced it was going out of business, and Twinkies everywhere were scooped off the shelves, where they otherwise could have sat unchanged for the next twenty-five years.

Luckily, you can make them at home.  And they’re even better than the real thing.

They may not have the shelf life of the Hostess version… IMG_9681

But that’s okay… they’ll never last that long anyways.
