I want to do more awesome shit

New goal, y’all: I want to do more awesome shit.

“Do more?” you’re probably asking, if you know me. (If you don’t, my tendency toward a very full and very random schedule is a running joke among my friends and co-workers – occasionally a less funny one to my introverted husband, although he’s usually happy to be along for the ride.)

I’m not trying to do more overall, just more that falls squarely into the awesome category.

Sometime this spring/summer (I can’t remember if it was after the space themed dance party in the airport terminal or the surrealist ball at the Hirshhorn Musuem, pictured above) I realized (or perhaps finally admitted?) that I just don’t find sitting around someone’s house/a bar drinking to be that interesting anymore. I am much more fulfilled by new, unique experiences that are memorable and make me gush on the ride home, “that was so much fun!”

Over the last couple of weeks, a few things have checked that box and reinforced this notion: playing authentic relating games with a room full of people I’d never met, dancing to Peruvian chicha music, going to a local filmmakers night to preview queer short films, and watching Jaws on the lawn of the Library of Congress where we just happened to run into a presidential candidate.

And I want more of it! This city has so much to offer: arts, culture, science, film, music, comedy, meet-ups and nerdy talks. Time to take advantage!
