Just a Little Bit

This morning I couldn’t bring myself to get out of bed in time for my 6:30 gym class.  When I finally rolled over and looked at my phone, it was 6:38.  I wasn’t going to be able to go back to sleep, I wasn’t tired.  But I’d missed the start of class.  What was the point of going to the gym?

Then I thought about it.  The bikes weren’t going anywhere, and it’s not like yoga where I’m interrupting if I join class late.  By the time I finished internally debating whether it was worth having to take a shower,  put on the already arranged clothes from last night’s softball game that wasn’t and made all the way across the street and up the stairs, I only had twenty minutes left of class.  But I worked hard for those twenty minutes, and it was twenty minutes worth of exercise I otherwise wouldn’t have gotten today.

I never think twice about having “just a little bit” more of those chips and salsa, “just a little bit” more cake or “just a little bit” more to drink (hence the difficulty getting out of bed in the first place!).  For whatever reason, we think too “all or nothing” about exercise.  We underestimate the value “just a little bit.”  Only have twenty minutes?  So what!  Go for a jog, a walk, a bike ride.  Don’t be ashamed to join class a little late.  Just get moving, even if it’s just a little bit!
