Peanut Butter and Spent Grain Dog Biscuits… With Only Four Ingredients!

I am quite sure that more of my friends are home brewers than are dog owners.  You can blame this on the emerging craft brew scene in D.C., full work and social calendars or the lack of backyards, but the fact remains.  Luckily these two little piggies are perfectly happy to consume more than their fair of spent grains.

And in all fairness, these poor pups see a lot of things come out of the oven that aren’t for them. It was there turn, and they clearly know when mom is making canine friendly munchies.

Anyways, whether you have dogs and friends that brew or you brew and have friends with dogs, these biscuits require only four ingredients, are ridiculously easy to make and are an excellent way to make sure your spent grains don’t go to waste.

Or so my little gremlins tell me.

I used the dog biscuit cookie cutters my friend Ali gave me for Christmas a couple of years ago, plus some ghosts and bats, to ensure that the treats were seasonably appropriate.  You know, because these two are very concerned with the shape of their treats.

Okay, one more cute pooch pic.

Ingredients:

  • 4 cups spent grain
  • 2 cups whole wheat flour
  • 1 cup peanut butter
  • 2 eggs

Instructions:

Pre-heat oven to 350 degrees.  Meanwhile, mixed all ingredients until well combined.  Form into a ball.  Roll out on a floured surface to about 1/4 inch and cut out shapes with cookie cutters.  Spread onto a greased baking sheet and cook for 30 minutes.  Lower temperature to 225 degrees and bake for an additional two hours.  These will last two weeks or so in an air-tight container.
