Sunday Funday, Foodie Edition! Tasty Things I Ate This Summer

It’s been a while since I kept up Sunday Funday, Foodie Edition where I highlight some of the spectacular things I’ve eaten at restaurants in D.C. and during my travels.  Well, we have some catching up to do!  This round I’m sharing with you not just the tasty things I ate this month, but all summer long!  Prepare to drool…

Pak Nam at Thip Khao, my favorite dish of the night. Crispy watercress with shrimp, tamarind sauce, mango, green apples and cashews. Not to be missed!

Palak Chaat at Rasika. This crispy baby spinach with tamarind, yogurt sauce and dates is a D.C. classic for a reason! Next time I'm at Rasika I'll order two of these and nothing else!

The Naem Khao, another favorite at Thip Khao. Crispy rice with coconut, like, scallion, pickled pork, peanut and cilantro in lettuce wraps.

Bean salad with goat confit and marinated cherry tomatoes at Rose's Luxury. This was the biggest pleasant surprise of the night, a wonderfully unique combo of flavors with generous chunks of goat!

THIS WAS AMAZING! Homemade blackberry pop-tart with chicken liver pate and cracklin, enjoyed at Proof on Main during a recent visit to Louisville, KY. Highly recommend!

Burrata with sweet corn and tomato salad, wheatberries, salami, basil and breadcrumbs at Red Hen. AMAZING texture combo between the wheatberries and breadcrumbs and the creamiest burrata you'll ever put in your mouth. The burrata is seasonal, so I highly recommend whichever one they are offering!

Speaking of sushi... every tried a sushi burrito? Well you should! My favorite Buredo is the Beatrix with added avocado, a combination of yellowfin tuna and salmon with cucumber, pickled cabbage, tempura crunch and unagi sauce.

The Colonial, a seasonal specialty at Taylor Gourmet. Herb Roasted Turkey, Sweet Potato & Sage Ricotta, Creamy Brie, Ginger Cranberry Sauce and Shredded Kale on whole cracked wheat bread. Seriously, I didn't want this sandwich to end!

Example one of an AMAZING burger paired with even more amazing fries. Super juicy beef locally sourced and ground in house, topped with gem lettuce, tomato jam, maple smoked cheese and a homemade brioche bun. The triple cooked house cut fries take three days to make. They're all potato, no fry and might just be the star of the show. From the Lighthouse pop-up at Prequel.

Example 2 is from my recent trip to Lousiville, Ky, another dish from Proof on Main. Perfectly medium-rare bison burger with Tillamock cheddar, smoked bacon, homemade ketchup and rosemary parmesan fries so good that neither of us left a single crumb.

I loved this so much, I ordered it twice during a recent trip to Jackson Hole, WY! Roasted beet salad with walnuts, bacon, gorgonzola and truffle honey vinaigrette topped with local wagyu steak at Snake River Brew Pub. Now how's that for bar food?!

And now for the pasta course. I was disappointed Mintwood Place took the Tagiatelle off the menu... until I tasted this rigatoni bolognese. It looks like hairy pasta but it was so, so much more.

I prefaced our order with "I'm not much of a pasta person," but this bugatini with sungold tomato sauce and parmesan literally made me eat my words. As per usual with Rose's Luxury, I can't even properly describe the experience in my mouth.

Last but oh so far from least... the Mezze Rigatoni with Fennel Sausage Ragu & Pecorino Romano at Red Hen. So fresh, so perfectly al dente. We shared this, but you may not want to.
