Taco Tuesday: Tortilla Coast

So let’s be honest, the only thing this place has going for it is it’s proximity the House and Senate office buildings and the easy stumble back to our house.  Oh, and the tuna tacos are actually pretty good.  I’d been for happy hour several times over the years, but we hadn’t been back since moving into the neighborhood.  No surprise, it’s still just your average Hill bar, but it doesn’t pretend to be anything else.

Inside out burrito

Cocktails: $$ Pretty standard selection of margaritas, beer and a full bar.  You’re better off ordering the margaritas on the rocks one at a time– my first one was great, but the pitchers were nearly all sweet and sour mix, to the point I had trouble drinking it.
Food : $ Not unique and definitely not authentic.  The tuna tacos are good and it’s nice that they keep complimentary chips and salsa coming all night long.
Taco Tuesday Specials: $7.99 for any burrito on Tuesdays!  Otherwise happy hour specials aren’t very special.  There’s a margarita for $6, but you have to get it frozen.  For $9 you can get a jumbo on the rocks off the regular menu.
Atmosphere:
We had no trouble getting a table for 8 — The crowd is pretty much all Hill staffers.
Service:  This is the first time I’ve written this, but really, really bad.  When we got our check back, we realized that they had messed up the gratuity and included it twice.  The server was totally put off that he had to go get his manager, and then the manager was just plain rude.  He actually raised his voice at us, suggested we call friends who already left and ask to adjust their tab, and then instead of fixing the bill told us to just scratch through the server’s gratuity.
