Takeout Tuesday: Corn Beef and Cabbage Edition

Remember how I was just saying that I’d never had a real, traditional Reuben?  Well, last night’s Takeout Tuesday took care of that problem!  In the spirit of St. Paddy’s Day, we ordered delicious sandwiches from Star and Shamrock on H. St.  In light of our recent chat, I of course ordered a Reuben.

The Classic Reuben: hot corned beef, griddled sauerkraut, swiss and russian on rye bread.

It was quite delicious and surprisingly not as rich as I would have expected.  In fact, I felt as if I’d just had a richer meal after finishing the Cabbage Roll Reubens Sunday night.  Probably because I had a generous bowl of homemade Russian dressing to dip them in.  If I hadn’t made it myself, I would swear that Russian dressing was laced with crack cocaine.  The stuff is downright addictive.  Yes I licked said generous bowl.

I convinced Courtney to order “The Clogger” instead of the much healthier turkey sandwich he had his eye on, simply because I wanted a bite. No I’m not trying to kill my husband.  He doesn’t even have life insurance.

The Clogger: hot beef brisket, provolone, bacon, gravy, and mayonnaise on a kaiser roll.

I was tempted to order the Star and Shamrock’s namesake sandwich, but that wouldn’t have accomplished my goal of trying a real, traditional Reuben.  Ashley did share a small bite with me though, and that’s all it took to know that this baby was rich.

"The Star and The Shamrock": hot pastrami, corned beef, chopped chicken liver, swiss, russian and a potato latke on rye bread

Julia was also so kind as to share a bite of her “Chicken and Cow.” This sandwich also had the rich savory chopped chicken liver, but was less overwhelming than the Star and the Shamrock.

Not pictured: The McTuna Melt and a Chicken Salad Sandwich, which I didn’t try.

Also not pictured: Any of my friends.  Apparently I wasn’t feeling very social last night, because I have a dozen pictures of food and no pictures of people.  #foodbloggerproblems.

Oh well, let’s be honest, you’d take sandwichporn over pictures of people any day.

Right?

RIGHT!?

Or maybe that’s just me?
