#ThanksObama

As President Obama leaves office, it truly seems like the end of an era – and for me the only one I’ve ever really known. It feels like a lifetime ago – but also just yesterday – that I moved to Washington D.C. with the Obamas, and it’s tough to imagine what it’s going to be like not having them in the White House.

President Obama has been held to higher standards than any that came before him; his opponents literally made his failure their number one goal. But he has exceeded those standards every step of the way, not just a gifted leader with intelligence, compassion and class, but also an amazing husband, father and all around human being.

He’s laughed with us, cried with us, sang with us, and regardless of the situation made me feel “we’ve got this, America” – everything is going to be alright.

On top of the immense policy wins, his legacy will always include inspiring a generation to organize and commit their lives to fighting for change.  I am proud to be a part of that legacy.

Personally, I say #ThanksObama for the experience of a lifetime. For sparking my interest in politics, which brought me to D.C. where I made lifelong friendships during my time on the Hill. #ThanksObama for my campaign family.  For my forever friendship with my campaign sisters, some of the most amazing women I’ve ever met.  For bringing my brother and I closer than we’d ever been through a bond based on so much love and respect.  And lastly, #ThanksObama for setting the bar so damn high, for showing us what it’s like to have a president we’re so damn proud of, and for forever inspiring us to settle for nothing less.

You sure make it hard to say goodbye.

Johanna
