These Are a Few of My Favorite Posts.

The Messy Kitchen was born two years ago today.  Well, sort of.  On January 27, 2011, I wrote my very first post.   It was a snow day, I made fig muffins, went to the gym twice and told you all about it.  The Messy Kitchen had yet to be named and lacked direction.  The posts were sometimes all over the place, heavy on ‘various other ramblings’ and light on much else.  My photography was horrid.   But  I knew I liked to cook, try new restaurants and tell stories.

Over time, I narrowed my focus.  The Messy Kitchen was named and got a new look. Particularly after my new year’s resolution last year, I begin to primarily focus on cooking and sharing recipes.   I even made up a few of my own.  I tried to make sure this was first and foremost a cooking blog.

But you may have noticed lately that I’ve once again broadened the scope of the stories I tell.  I’ve started blogging about my marathon training.  The ‘various other ramblings’ have crept back in, and I expect that they will continue to do so.  They say “the kitchen is the heart of the home” and a lot more happens in the heart and in the home than just cooking.

So here we are, two years later.  I still lack direction, my posts are still sometimes all over the place and my photography has only slightly improved.   But  I still like to cook, try new restaurants and tell stories.

I happen to find it fairly silly when bloggers bake a cake for their blog’s birthday.  Don’t get me wrong, I’ve seen this done on plenty of blogs I love and respect.   But let’s be real… it’s just an excuse to bake a cake, and why do you need an excuse to bake a cake?   Coming from the girl who made banana bread to celebrate the birthday of a rockstar that died before I was born.  Regardless, I am not going to bake a cake.  Instead, I am going to take a moment to look back at the past two years and highlight some of my favorite posts.  If you’ve joined us recently, be sure to check them out.

As you can see, my favorite posts are not primarily cooking related.  They about the people I love, my travels and my inner most thoughts.   They are the posts that tell stories and evoke memories and really let you get to know their author.

Ironically, the most popular post by far is not even slightly kitchen related.  DIY Guide: How to Make Your Own Brooch Bouquet gets far more views each day than any of the rest of my posts.

What is your all time favorite Messy Kitchen post?
What would you like to see more of or less of moving forward?
