Whole30, Day 17: (Not) Eating Out with Friends

Tonight my book club met at a cute little French restaurant.  It was the first time since I’ve started the Whole30 that I went to a social gathering centered around food.  I know that sounds crazy 17 days in, but I just haven’t really been going out.  I did look at the menu beforehand to see if there would be anything that wouldn’t be too difficult to modify, but in the end I decided it would just be easier to eat before I went.  Of course it’s awkward to sit at a table of ten people and be the only one not eating or drinking, but it wasn’t anything I couldn’t handle.  Most of them already knew that I’m halfway through a Whole30, so there weren’t too many questions asked.  I will say that the food looked delicious and it awakened my inner foodie dragon.  Couldn’t we have gone to somewhere where the food was just blah?  I suppose I need to get used it though, as this is just the first of several events on the calendar for the next several days and I expect the rest will be even more tempting (beer club…wine and cheese bar… how will I stay sane?!).

According to the Whole30 Timeline I should be feeling:  Tiger Blood! Your energy is through the roof, you’ve kicked the cravings, you’re experimenting with new, delicious food, and you’ve finally got the time to notice that your clothes fit better, your workouts are stronger, and you are generally more awesome.

How I’m feeling: Felt more energetic today with the exception of a mid-afternoon slump.  Finally have some room in my skinny jeans.

Pre-workout snack: A boiled egg and 1 T almond butter

Meal 1: Pastelón (Puerto Rican lasagna with fried plantains as noodles!) and a fruit salad with almond butter balsamic

Meal 2: Thai Turkey and Zucchini Meatballs with Broccoli

IMG_5131Snack:  A Buffalo chicken egg white muffin and 1/4 avocado (Since I ate dinner at 5:30 and spent two hours watching friends eat delicious smelling French food, I was a bit hungry by the time I got home.  Sad to say that these buffalo chicken cups don’t freeze so well!)
