Whole30, Day 21

This weekend was much needed proof that it’s possible to go out and be social while on a Whole30.  I caught up with a lot of friends and genuinely had a great time Friday, Saturday and Sunday without alcohol or overindulgence.  While I think friends sometimes feel bad for me that my options are limited eating out, don’t!  I chose to do this.  And honestly, I don’t really feel like I’m missing out.  Yes, that fried chicken and waffles looked awesome, but I was perfectly satisfied by my steak and eggs and I didn’t leave with the feeling that I overate that I usually have when I leave a restaurant.  I hope that once the Whole30 is over, I will draw from this experience, learn to make good judgments about when things are “worth it” and keep in mind that there will be another meal, I don’t have to eat all the things now.  I am a foodie at heart and these things can be a challenge for me!

I should also mention that yesterday I cheated on my Whole30.  It wasn’t my fault!  I went out for what will be the third and final meal out during my Whole30, brunch with a group of girlfriends.  It was an all you can eat all you can drink deal, but I of course ordered a la carte.  I told the server and the manager all of my restrictions before hand and the manager was super helpful about what I could and couldn’t have.  But then they brought out the Brussels sprouts deep fried in a soy/canola oil blend.  It took me a few bites and the discovery of a potato to realize the mistake and the manager apologized profusely and brought me the correct brussels sprouts.  While it’s not the end of the world for me, it certainly highlights the danger for people with true food allergies!  In addition to just not ever really being sure what you’re going to get, eating out on the Whole30 is rarely worth your money.  You can’t experience the meals the way they were meant to be experienced or order what you would really like to order, so you just don’t get your money’s worth!

According to the Whole30 Timeline I should be feeling:  I am so over this.  You’re loving the way your body is responding to the program, but serious food boredom is set in.

How I’m feeling: I have experienced absolutely zero food boredom.  I am still loving the meals I’m eating and so is Courtney.  Tonight as we dug into our chili, he said “there’s no way this is compliant.”  But it was.  Whole30 food is awesome food.  It’s the strict and arbitrary rules that exhaust me, not the food.

Breakfast: Three egg omelette with mushrooms and Brussels sprouts, sweet potato with almond butter, cinnamon and coconut milk and a few blackberries.
