Whole30, Day 27: Navigating an Impromptu Road Trip

Saturday we decided to drive down to Roanoke to surprise Grandma for her 86th birthday.      I knew a road trip would be a challenge on the Whole3o because it would mean either packing meals or eating out, but I was up for the challenge.  I packed a couple of boiled eggs, an piece of avocado and a Lara bar for the road.  Ordering a compliant meal at Carrabba’s was surprisingly easy.  While I’m usually not a big fan of chain restaurants, they do tend to have simple protein options that you can then just ask to have cooked with just olive oil, salt and pepper.  My steak was surprisingly good!  If anything, the challenge is getting enough to eat since many restaurants don’t have a compliant starch option.  Since starting the Whole30 I’ve found that my restaurant meals are always smaller than my meals at home, definitely not something that is generally the case!  We had so much fun surprising Grandma, Winifred and Mike, and we had a very lovely meal with much of Courtney’s family!

According to the Whole30 Timeline I should be feeling:  Tiger Blood! Your energy is through the roof, you’ve kicked the cravings, you’re experimenting with new, delicious food, and you’ve finally got the time to notice that your clothes fit better, your workouts are stronger, and you are generally more awesome.

How I’m feeling:  Normal, physically.  And I totally have the hang of this!

Pre-workout Snack: Boiled egg, half a banana and a bit of almond butter
